Anna Burns wins Man Booker Prize for her novel Milkman. She has become the first Northern Irish Author to win the prize.

The novel is set during the troubles, tells the story of an 18-year-old unnamed girl who is called as the middle sister. She is being stalked by an elder paramilitary personnel.

The novel is being praised for resonating with the current #Metoo trend as the protagonist middle sister is being chased by the elder paramilitary person. The judges found the book incredibly real to read and the storytelling way of Burns was incredible.

Appiah, a judge thinks that the free-floating structure of the book makes it a difficult read but still, a very incredible and really like story.

Where was it announced?

Anna Burns victory was announced at London’s Guildhall, where she was presented with a trophy by Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, and £50,000 prize money by Man Group chief executive Luke Ellis.

She also received a special designed version of her book and £2500 for being nominated. The other nominated contestants too received the same amount.

Anna Burns has beaten the American literary Richard Powers, Daisy Johnson(27) who is the youngest ever to be nominated for the prize and the Canadian writer Esi Edugyan.

Upon receiving the award she got emotional and said ” I’d like to axknowledge all the great writers on the shortlist and longlist with me. To all my dear friends thank you, I’d better stop thanks.”

Upon being asked what she would like to do with this kind of money she said that she would like to clear up all her debts and live her life upon with whatever remains. Well, this certainly tells us that being a writer doesn’t make you killer rich. It’s a tough job and she did it well and is getting the deserved prize.
