Marvel recently released the trailer for their upcoming 2019 film – Captain Marvel. She will be a new addition to the already star-studded roster of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s superheroes. Also, she is the first female character to play the lead role in an independent Marvel movie.
Oscar-winner Brie Larson has taken up the mantle of Captain Marvel. The movie is filled with 90s nostalgia. The Clinton-era references are just oozing out from the trailer. Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel crashes into a Blockbuster Video Store in the opening seconds of the trailer.
There are so many references such as the pagers, the Los Angeles bus terminals and of course, the Nine Inch Nails shirt that Danvers in wearing. The movie serves as an origin for the character as is evident from the changing shots with Danvers many falls being portrayed as her growth and the accumulation of her powers.
Then, there’s the Skrulls. For those who only watch the MCU and have no affiliation with the Marvel comics whatsoever, will not recognize them. In short, they are shape-shifting aliens who want to take over the earth. They are quite a threat in the comics as they question the trust that is being put by the readers and the characters into them. Anyone can be a traitor.
The Skrull arc is also evident from the fact that Danvers just punches in the face of an old lady on the bus. She has to be a Skrull. Otherwise, Captain Marvel wouldn’t have been the hero.
We will also witness Captain Marvel teaming up with the Starforce, an elite military unit of the Kree, another alien species, fighting against the Skrulls.
