19th Annual India-Russia Summit

On Thursday Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in New Delhi for the 19th Annual India-Russia Summit. It was the two days visit which turns to impact U.S deeply by opposing his provision of CAATSA law. The Military deals cost around $10B which is the very huge amount. Despite, the U.S has warned to oppose this deal through sanctions act i.e. CAATSA Law that constrains military/ defence purchases from Russia, Iran and North Korea. Last Month only, Trump’s administration imposed sanctions on China regarding the purchase of Su-35 and S-400 systems.

Five S-400 missile systems which cost around Rs 39,000 cr ( $ 5.2B) has been purchased. The S-400 Triumf is an advanced surface to air missile system, developed by Russian state-owned company Almaz-Antey. It can shoot down the hostile aircraft and ballistic missile to the range of 250km and extended up to 400km. Also, there is a deal of four stealth frigates and a deal for Ak-103 assault rifles, which itself be manufacture in India. This will obviously attract sanctions from the Trump’s administration.

Major Pacts

Russia is ready to cooperate on India’s Ambitious Human Space Mission Project GAGANYAAN. A crucial MoU was signed between ISRO and ROSCOSMOS on joint activities on this mission of GAGANYAAN. Also, India and Russia agreed on to cooperate the fight against terrorism as also mentioned by Modi.

So, the 19th annual India-Russia Summit will lead to a closer relationship with Russia despite the 2+2 dialogue with the U.S. The COMCASA that make India a major defence partner of U.S and this S-400 missile deal with Russia will Emerge as the major balancing factor on Russia-U.S tensions. Also, the major space cooperation with Russia will provide a major static opportunity to ISRO. Hence, we can say that this 19th annual India-Russia Summit will really be beneficial for India as to fulfil the ambition of Global Super Power.
