Farah Khan’s directed ‘Om Shanti Om’ completes 13 years today. The movie still remains fresh in mind.

We can call the movie classic. To embolden the aforementioned statement, we have a fact that no other movie paid homage to the golden era of Hindi Cinema, despite being released in modern times, as beautifully as Om Shanti Om did. Moreover, this is that flick which established Deepika Padukone in Bollywood on firm grounds.
The amalgamation of old and modern times is being displayed cleverly in the movie. Undoubtedly, the way Om Shanti Om made the viewers travel from 70s cinematic era to modern times is not less than a visual treat. There is not yet a movie that can show time-lapse with such intensive and effective emotions.
The movie’s reference to the popular dialogues of the 90s is one of the highlights. The most remembered one is where Deepika thanked Shahrukh for saving her from fire. In the same scene, Shahrukh replied to her saying ‘Dosti Mein No Sorry, No Thank You’ which is a reference from the movie ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989).
Another heart winning scene from the movie is the scene of an award ceremony. This scene has encrypted the dialogue ”Itni Shiddat se maine tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai, ke har zarre ne mujhe tumse Milane ki saazish ki hai. Kehte hain ki…agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho to puri kayanat usey tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai” permanently n hearts of cine buffs.
Award ceremonies and the hype that surrounds them have been an eminent part of the Hindi movie industry and Om Shanti Om did complete justice to them by dedicating a full-fledged scene to them. The same goes for the Deewangi song which is an ode to star studded Bollywood parties.
The flick has innumerable references where it has paid homage to the Hindi film Industry. On its 13th anniversary, we recall the good memories tyhe movie gave and hope directors make such films again. Having said that, we agree that it is impossible to touch the magic of Om Shanti Om.
