10 Habits to be avoided if you want to be successful

To be “successful” is not something that you should do by the terms of society but instead, you have to make your very own. The trick to do that is how we manage our time to achieve our purpose.

Not Being on Time: Mrs Golda Meir the 4th Prime Minister of Israel gave a famous quote “I must govern the clock, not be governed by it”. Ms Golda Meir had a deep insight into work ethics and when she emphasizes “govern the clock,” she very specifically lays stress on how to manage your time.

Not Having a Plan: If you want to be successful, you have to have a plan for your objectives. Every plan of action should be focused on your objectives and goal of life.

Not being Focused: One should be focused on the things which are related to their work and self-development.  If you constantly shifting your priorities, you are no longer the path of your goal. A focused individual is one that knows the first, second, and third things to be done on any given day.

Saying “yes” when you should say “no”: As per research at the University of California in San Francisco, if you find more difficulty that you have to say no, the more likely you are to experience stress, burnout, and even depression, all of which erode self-control. Saying no is indeed a major self-control challenge for many people. When it’s time to say no, emotionally intelligent people avoid phrases like “I don’t think I can” or “I’m not certain.”

Comparing yourself to other people: If you want to be a successful person, you should stop comparing yourself with others. By comparing yourself to others, you are no longer the master of your own happiness.

Procrastination: Many a time, we tend to postpone times for the right time. By doing that we missed the present opportunity to execute it.

Being too serious: Many times, we take things too seriously! But don’t take yourself too seriously. Positive psychology has shown that one of the most important routes to happiness is to laugh at yourself more – and not take life too seriously. So ditch the frown and take the time to laugh more!

Pointless meetings:  If you study some of the most prominent politicians, businessmen/businesswomen, etc., one thing you’ll notice is they don’t speak unless there’s something to be said. And they certainly don’t organize hour-long meetings to babble about anything in particular.

Following other opinions: When we listen to others’ opinion, we tend to ignore our own stand. The most important thing is not to ‘value’ yourself based on what other people think of you. So it’s okay to get feedback, but know that you have control over your life and you make your own decisions. Be careful not to life your life according to what others want instead of yourself.

Leaving things unfinished: Productive and successful people are great at finishing things. Philip Stanhope, once wrote to his son: “Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination; never put off till to-morrow what you can do today.”
